Building Inclusive Futures (The Arc of Rhode Island)

Building Inclusive Futures is a program that guides individuals with disabilities who are transitioning into adulthood. Individuals, with their loved ones, can discover their skills and explore further education or employment opportunities to embark on their desired careers. Together, The Arc Rhode Island, the participants, their families, and loved ones become a source of extraordinary support to build a path for their future.

Building Inclusive Futures focuses on youth in transition, young adults with disabilities, adults living with elderly parents, and adults newly entering the Rhode Island Disability Services. The Arc Rhode Island provides individuals with resources and referrals within the State of Rhode Island.

What does it do?

Creates a VISION - Participants are actively involved in planning their future. With the use of person-centered planning tools, we intentionally focus on the preferences and required needs to live an inclusive life.

Builds a LIFE PLAN - It includes building supports and provides resources for individualized future goals such as employment, further education, recreation, and housing.

Utilizes the ACTION PLAN – Participants are guided by the written strategies and action steps created in their Life Plan and make adjustments as wanted or as necessary.

Work with a LIFE COACH – Through highly individualized weekly meetings, the Life Coach will mentor, encourage, guide, and record progress. The program assists participants and their families as they navigate life to pursue their goals.

What is the goal?
The goal of The Building Inclusive Futures Program is to offer support, resources, and services to families, participants, and/or students transitioning from high school who want to be proactive and design their future.

Designing for Diversity in Your Library’s Communications (Free Webinar)

Designing for Diversity in Your Library’s Communications

3:00–4:00 pm Eastern Daylight Time
Wednesday, July 13, 2023

Motivations, ideas, and inspiration for supporting diverse populations and creating community with care.
Being intentional and inclusive in the design of your library’s communications, in both physical and digital library spaces, can support and enrich your library’s accessibility, diversity, and equity. The graphics, language, or format selected for communications provide an opportunity to create more welcoming spaces which reflect and represent your community’s diversity, including—but not limited to—race, gender, or neurodiversity.

Explore the importance of inclusion and representation in design and take a fresh look at how your library’s signage, marketing materials, and online communication can contribute to a sense of belonging for all.

Presented by: Mollie Peuler, eLearning Librarian, Appalachian State University (NC)
Webinar will be recorded.
